Make a Meaningful Impact as an Elementary Special Ed Teacher in Manhattan

Academics West is seeking a compassionate, creative Elementary Special Education Teacher to help bright, capable students build academic confidence, independence, and social-emotional skills. This in-person opportunity on Manhattan’s Upper West Side is ideal for a special education educator who wants the resources, clinical partnership, and small, supportive learning environment needed to make a genuine difference every day. We have a new location in downtown Brooklyn coming soon. Potential hiring underway.

What You’ll Do:

• Design engaging, differentiated lesson plans that align with Common Core State Standards while meeting the individual needs, strengths, and learning profiles of elementary students.
• Deliver small-group instruction, reading intervention, social studies, and project-based learning experiences that make rigorous content accessible and relevant.
• Implement Individualized Education Programs and use effective instructional strategies to support students with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning differences, anxiety, and executive functioning challenges.
• Manage Teaching Assistant to ensure they fulfill their daily obligations
  Qualifications:
• Create a structured, welcoming classroom using relationship-based practices, strong classroom management, and social-emotional learning strategies.
• Collaborate closely with clinicians, administrators, and fellow teachers to monitor student progress and provide consistent, student-centered support.
• Build trusted partnerships with families through thoughtful parent communication and productive parent conferences.
• Use tools such as Google Classroom to organize learning, communicate expectations, and support student engagement.

What You’ll Bring:

• You bring experience teaching elementary students in special education, alternative education, therapeutic education, or a closely related setting.
• You can translate differentiated instruction and IEP goals into meaningful daily classroom experiences for diverse learners.
• You communicate with empathy and professionalism when partnering with parents, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
• You are skilled at creating calm, inclusive learning environments that strengthen emotional regulation, confidence, and academic growth.
• You hold the appropriate teaching certification and possess a bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or a related field; advanced credentials are welcomed.

Compensation & Benefits:

• This full-time, in-person teaching role offers an annual salary of $65,000 to $75,000, based on qualifications and experience.
